More U.S. law firms are pulling lawyers away from revenue-generating work to serve as general counsel. In fact, more than two-thirds of the top 200 firms have a designated in-house GC, says one survey. And that number is apt to go higher. Adds Howrey general counsel Roger Klein, "It's a recognition that as firms get larger ... the ad hoc approach is not the most efficient."
