Computer Woes Plague D.C. Court
Criminal defense lawyers say a new computer system in Washington, D.C., Superior Court is wreaking havoc on their cases, leading to false arrests and erroneous releases. "The entire system is just abysmal," says defense lawyer Bernie Grimm. Court officials downplay the trouble. Judge Brook Hedge, co-chair of the committee that oversaw the new system's implementation, says, "People think that with the computer system everything is going to be perfect and work perfectly, and sometimes it doesn't."
