As the size of law firms increases, associate training programs are becoming increasingly ambitious. Beyond substantive CLE training, professional development is turning toward formalized lessons regarding the business and cultural norms at law firms. "Mentoring and work experience are so important," says Wildman Harrold's director of associate development. "They far outweigh any classroom training I can give a lawyer." But because most of the programs are relatively new, their effect remains to be seen.
