Bankruptcy Attorneys Fight for Status
Bankruptcy lawyers are fighting federal provisions that impose civil and criminal penalties for disclosure and advertising compliance failures; restrict how they can advise their clients; and require the lawyers to identify themselves as a "debt relief agency." Attorneys are challenging the provisions in courts in several states, and a national bankruptcy attorney group hopes soon to file a constitutional challenge as well. Says one debtor attorney, "I think we'll win the war eventually."
